In October 2023, we brought another puppy into our home. His name is Frank, a Peekapoo—a mix of Pekingese and Poodle.
At first, Frost wasn’t quite sure what to make of this little newcomer. She was a little leery of him, and I suppose she had to decide whether this strange little puppy was going to be a friend or an annoyance.
It didn’t take long for her to decide.
Frost and Frank became best buddies.
They were inseparable. Frank wouldn’t even eat his food unless Frost was eating hers. If Frost was eating, Frank was eating. Somehow, he seemed to need her approval—or maybe he just didn’t want to miss out on whatever she was doing.
They would chase each other around the house and backyard at incredible speeds. They both ran so fast that sometimes it seemed like they were flying.
Then came the wrestling.
They would chase each other, pounce on one another, tumble around, play-growl, and gently nip at each other. They could make an entire production out of playing. And after all that running and wrestling, they would eventually collapse together on their bed and fall fast asleep.
It was one of the sweetest things to watch.
They had found each other.
When Frost passed away, Frank didn’t understand where his friend had gone.
For two weeks, he wouldn’t eat his food. He wandered around the house looking for her. He seemed to expect her to come around the corner, or perhaps to find her in one of the places where they had spent so many hours playing together.
The house was different without Frost.
And Frank knew it.
So did we.
We still miss her terribly.
Frost may have started life as one of nine puppies we never intended to keep, but she became so much more than that. She became part of our family, part of our everyday lives, and part of the memories that will stay with us forever.
